This song was created out of my curiosity of how the body and mind coordinate so perfectly that we can think about moving a finger while doing it at the same time. With this correlation, I wanted to see how we can consume a free flowing rhythm. Given the grid-based structure of my choice of tools (Ableton Live), it was definitely a challenge to achieve that digitally.
I had this idea with no drums on it for a long time. When I made this beat I knew this is a match for the space I wanted to fill. The melodic section is very much ambient. It uses the same melodic arpeggiated motif from ‘Mixed Feelings' that takes the lead at various points along with a walking mid range bass line. All this sits on top of lush pads that act like a bed for all this stuff to bounce on.
In the psychophysical parallelism theory interaction does not happen between the body and mind but they work on their own independently of each other, in parallel. They don't cause each other although they have a kind of harmony. Similarly this track has a rhythm independent of other non rhythmic elements even though repetition makes it seem like it does.
